Megadeth is an American thrash metal band from the city of Los Angeles, California, formed in 1983. The band was founded by guitarist and vocalist Dave Mustaine and bass player David Ellefson after Mustain was fired from Metallica. Since then, Megadeth has released 15 studio albums. The group is one of the most commercially successful thrash metal bands, selling over 50 million albums worldwide, including a Grammy-nominated multi-platinum album, Countdown to Extinction. In the United States alone, Megadeth received seven platinum, five gold albums and nine Grammy nominations as the best heavy metal artist. The group broke up in 2002 after Mustaine severely damaged the radial nerve, but after physiotherapy, in 2004 Mustaine restored the group that released The System Has Failed album that same year, which started at number 18 on the hit parade of popular albums. Already in the first week after the release, about a million copies of the record were sold. Thriller is listed on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. This vinyl broke certain barriers: the song “Beat It” got into rotation on “white radio stations” thanks to the solo recorded for the record by Eddie Van Halen.
