Rock is not just a musical direction, it is a youth culture, a means of youth communication, a mirror of society. You don’t need to be too observant to notice that it is young people who pay much more attention, time and money to music than adults.
Young – the main visitors to concerts, participants in discos, buyers of audio and CD. It is to them that pop stars and popular groups appeal. Although lovers of youth music are sometimes not only active, but also aggressive. Obviously, the main need, uniting sympathy for the genres of youth music, is the need for entertainment. Definition of Rock Music (part 1)
Rock music (Eng. Rock music) – the generalized name of many areas of music. The word “rock” – rocking – in this case indicates the rhythmic sensations characteristic of these directions associated with a certain form of movement, by analogy with “roll”, “twist”, “swing”, “shake”, etc. Such signs rock music, such as the use of electric musical instruments, creative self-sufficiency (rock musicians are characterized by the performance of their own compositions) are secondary and often misleading. For this reason, the belonging of some styles of music to rock is disputed. Rock is also a special subcultural phenomenon; subcultures such as fashion, hippies, punks, metallers, goths are inextricably linked with certain genres of rock music.
Rock music has a large number of directions: from light genres such as dance rock and roll, pop rock, britpop to brutal and aggressive genres – death metal and hardcore. Continue reading
