FACTS AND QUOTES “BON JOVI”

Bon Jovi is an American rock band from New Jersey, formed in 1983. The ensemble includes vocalist John Bon Jovi, keyboardist David Bryan, bass player Hugh MacDonald, guitarist Phil X and drummer Tico Torres. Over the years, the composition of the group remained virtually unchanged, only in 1994 did bassist Alec John Sach leave them, who was replaced by Hugh MacDonald. In 2013, guitarist Richie Sambora left the band. In 2016, Hugh MacDonald and Phil X became full members of the team. The worldwide popularity of Bon Jovi contributed to the album Slippery When Wet (1986). In 1990, after heavy touring tours and a large number of hits, the group suspended activity; then John Bon Jovi and Sambora released on a solo album. In 1992, the album Keep the Faith was released. Their 2000 song, It’s My Life, caught the eye of a younger audience. Bon Jovi used different styles in their music: for example, the Lost Highway (2007) album included country elements. The band’s latest release, This House Is Not for Sale, was released on November 4, 2016.

Bon Jovi released 13 studio albums, six collections and two live albums. In total, their albums were sold in a circulation of 130 million copies. They played more than 2,600 concerts in 50 countries in front of a 34 millionth audience and were included in the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2006. In 2004, the group received an award for musical achievements at the American Music Awards, and in 2009, John Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora entered the Composers Hall of Fame.

Facts and Quotes from Bon Jovi

The history of the group began with the fact that at the age of 13, John Bon Jovi began playing guitar in local groups. Life in the working suburbs of New York left a mark on the young musician – he really wanted to create his own team and record his songs.
John worked a lot not only on music, but also on finding the best share for his future band. He started by taking a job at Power Station Studios in New York. The employment was very diverse – John went to the laundry, bought hamburgers and donuts, swept the floor, drove tapes with notes, made coffee. So he knocked out a place for himself to record his songs.
In local clubs, John hung out until the morning: it was necessary to conquer the local audience. Once Bon Jovi auditioned for his first Atlantic City Expressway team. Senior keyboardist David Brian came there.
In 1982, the first demo record of the song Runaway appeared, which later fell on the debut album Bon Jovi 1984. And then she sneaked into the radio station WAPP 103.5 FM. Next came the chain reaction. New York radio stations grabbed onto the song, and the rotation took on a more serious scale.
John Bon Jovi: “Nothing happened with this record until I took it to the WAPP radio station.”
Mercury Records drew attention to a promising record. John quickly called David Bryan and reported it. The group needed new blood, but it had neither management, nor advertising, and even a name. David invited Alec John Sach to play bass. And he invited Tico Torres to take the place of the drummer in the new team. Tico Torres began playing at age 16, while Alec was a violinist in a school orchestra. Together with Tiko, they played in the Phantom’s Opera band. The guys welcomed David Brown’s proposal very vividly.
The last to join the Bon Jovi family was Ritchie Sambora. Richie learned to play himself and mastered six instruments (guitar, bass, piano, trumpet, saxophone, accordion). He practiced a lot with the records of his favorite artists: he took the guitar and played along with the records.
After the concerts, Richie approached John and said that he really wanted to become a member of his group. When John gave the go-ahead, the group came together without Bon Jovi. They played, and when John entered the rehearsal, he said to Richie: “Accepted!”
Richie about the group: “When we got our first contract to record the first album, everything was like the first time for us. By that time, we still did not know how to relate to each other. Time passed, and we constantly discovered something new in each other. All this time we continued to grow as a group. The more we play together and the more we play together at concerts, the more we get to know each other both as musicians and in personal terms. Being a group does not only mean the ability of everyone to play their musical instrument. You have to be connected with your partners. You must become one family. It comes with time. On tour, you often have to live together. So all this is a long process of forming a group as a whole. ”
Richie about the appearance of the group and success: “I did not like the fact that people did not take either the group or John seriously. We are all serious musicians. We tried very hard and grew professionally all these years. And it turns out that the worst is that John is a handsome guy ?! Is he supposed to be a freak? Who said a handsome guy can’t write a good song? Well, sorry, it just so happened. Sound…
