Overview of Heavy Music Styles (part 1)

Grindcore (Grindcore) – the hardest musical (?!) Direction of all ever created by mankind. The first grind album was released by perverts from Napalm Death (England), mixing in their music the energy of the most brutal representatives of hardcore (Cryptic Slaughter, for example) with the severity and aggression of Death metal and maximizing this mixture. They got a bunch of ultra-heavy, ultra-evil and ultra-short (from a few seconds to 2-3 minutes!) Compositions. Such a miracle simply could not go unnoticed in the ranks of misanthropic citizens, and after the “napalms” from the British cellars a huge number of new teams emerged playing grind, including Carcass, who became famous as the most bloodthirsty group on planet Earth. Jazz musician John Zorn even managed to play Grindcore on the saxophone. For some time, grindcore was very popular (as much as ANYONE can be popular), but due to its limited nature, it could not maintain its position and gave way to new, more promising genres. Even such legends as Napalm Death and Carcass were tired of the uniform swotting, which caused the course to change to more melodic music. (not) Recommended listening groups: Napalm Death and Carcass (early albums), Extreme Noise Terror, Brutal Truth, Anal Cunt, Lock Up, Heresy

Doom Metal is the slowest and darkest direction of metal music. Doom appeared in the mid-80s through the efforts of teams such as Candlemass, Saint Vitus, Trouble and Count Raven, who took the music of the early Black Sabbath as a basis and developed all the dark afterlife features present on the first albums of this group. In the early 90s, death metallers in the person of Paradise Lost and Tiamat, having listened to Candlemass and Sisters Of Mercy, offered their version of the “thought” to the public. It was the so-called gothic-doom-death, i.e. a mixture of Doom and Death metal with Gothic elements, slow and dreary music with raucous low vocals, female singing and violin inserts. The texts in the “Duma” are mainly on religious and suicidal topics. In the mid-90s, various doom mutants (Dark Metal and Stoner Rock) appeared, but to me, honestly, such a classification is not entirely clear, so you can forget about it. Recommended listening groups: Candlemass, Crematory, Tiamat, Paradise Lost, Saint Vitus, My Dying Bride, Anathema, Count Raven, Trouble, Memento Mori, Cathedral, Solitude Aeturnus

Death metal is the heaviest and toughest form of metal (the grindcore is not considered because it only partially belongs to the metal cohort). The ancestor of “dezovschiny” is considered the thrash / death band Possessed. What can I say, because this group is still the greatest idol of many Death Metal teams. In 1984, the duo released the EP “Death Metal” and the full-length album “Seven Churches”, which inspired Florida-based Mantas to record the Reign Of Terror demo in the same year. These records contained very vicious and bloodthirsty material as close as possible to Death. For the unenlightened, we’ll inform you that later Mantas was renamed Death, which released in 1987 the first truly death metal album “Scream Bloody Gore”, which raised a huge wave of this music. Over the years, the leader of the group, Chuck Schuldiner, modified his own style into a progressive (or techno) death, more melodic, technical and intellectual version of Death Metal. Death metal (Melodic and Progressive does not count!) Is inconceivable without aggressive growling, low guitar sound, blastbeats and bloodthirsty lyrics inspired by the best (?) Creations of horror cinema. This style was most popular in the early and mid-90s, largely due to the legendary Cannibal Corpse, which raised death metalism to a new level. In addition to Possessed, such metal monsters as Venom, Slayer, Kreator, HellHammer, Bathory, etc. also influenced the development of the style. There are now three main death forces: Florida, Sweden (Brutal and Melodic) and Dutch death metal. By the way, the fact that the Mayhem Black metal legend called their style Total Death Metal in the mid-80s is interesting. Recommended listening groups: Death, Morbid Angel, Deicide, Obituary, Cannibal Corpse, Hypocrisy, Grave, Dismember, Atheist, Edge Of Sanity, In Flames, Gorefest, Altar, Vader, God Dethroned, Angel Corpse

Power Metal (Power Metal) – after the appearance of speed metal, some young musicians continued to develop a successfully found chip, looking for new ways to express themselves in music. Those of them who appreciated power and aggression more played Thrash, lovers of the melody and all kinds of twists preferred Power. Power metal is distinguished from speed metal by its greater melodic variety, numerous solos with a greater influence of classical music, lower playing speed, well-set, less aggressive vocals and epic-symphonic elements.Helloween was the first “power” to release the most famous album in the genre, “Keeper Of The Seven Keys”, in which the desperate “screech” Kai Hansen gave way to the microphone stand of Michael Kiske, a performer with a softer manner of singing. The texts of power groups are often based on literary works in the style of Fantasy and Horror and various legends and tales, but among them there are also many highly social texts directed against wars, drugs, animal cruelty, etc. Today Power is experiencing its rebirth – it is again very popular in Europe and Japan. Many new groups appear, although in most cases they are only pale Helloween clones. Recommended listening groups: Helloween, Blind Guardian, Stratovarius, Running Wild, Grave Digger, Angel Dust, HammerFall, Adolf Castle, Rhapsody, Gamma Ray, Nightwish, Iron Savior, Virgin Steele, Jag Panzer, White Skull; Power Thrash: Morgana Lefay, Enola Gay, Nevermore, Unleashed Power, Iced Earth, Rage
