How, why did a new style of music come about, how did it all begin? (part 1)

It all started with the fact that in 1920 the Soviet engineer L. Tremen invented a new musical instrument theremin. It was arranged as follows: the pitch changed by approaching the antenna or removing the performer’s hand from it. The desire to use electricity in music encouraged inventors to come up with unusual instruments with fancy names – emiriton, trautonium, and violen. In the thirties, the first electric guitars appeared. But they probably have nothing in common with a modern electric guitar, except for the belt on which it is hung. And it was difficult to call those instruments an electric guitar. Just because of the urge to somehow isolate the guitar in the orchestra, to make its sound louder, a pickup was attached to the acoustic guitar. But this did not bring the guitar to the place of leader in the orchestra, which they wanted to achieve so much. The sound became louder, but the essence of the guitar (accompaniment) remained. It was later discovered that by processing sound to an amplifier, an incredible result could be achieved. Then an electric guitar was born, which eventually acquired a solid body and a lot of electronics in addition. Subsequently, it was the guitar that became the “first violin” of the rock ensemble, although recently the bass guitar, which previously performed only the accompaniment function in the group, acquires such solo parts that it can be successfully ranked among the leaders in the group.

“THE BEATLES” – THE ORIGINS OF ROCK?
So much has been written about the Beatles that you cannot make new discoveries in this area. Many consider the 4 Liverpool guys to be the founders of the rock style. Is it so? – It is hard to say. Probably so. Although it seems to me that the “Beatles” gave impetus to the development of a style that was later called “soft rock” and which later grew into the so-called “pop music”. One of the features of the Beatles, allowing me to classify them as pop music, is the relative simplicity of their music and lyrics, although this is more a consequence of the needs of young people than the lack of ability of musicians. Young people then got tired of the complexities of life, she wanted something easy and understandable. It cannot be denied that the Beatles made a huge contribution to the development of youth music. Of course, they gave the spiritual foundation of rock, prepared an audience of listeners for it, but they could not found rock in terms of music. The Beatles speaks a lot for the statement of Bob Dylan, one of the creators of the folk-rock style: – They did what was impossible, what could not be possible … I told myself: now everything will be wrong; I was shocked. And I could not believe that a few hours ago I had not seen the Beatles …

HARD-ROCK (Encyclopedia Reference)
Hard rock. Literally: hard or hard rock. The concept is so comprehensive that many do not see the difference between rock music itself and this, one of its most widespread and popular branches.

Sharpness in rock music has always been lacking – the first rock’n’rolls just for that reason irritated listeners who were used to a streamlined, smooth transfer of musical ideas. Hard rock, the “ghost” that has been hovering in pop group compositions since the first half of the 60s, first took a relatively clear form in the music of bands such as Blyuchier and Krim (although it is impossible to uniquely identify authorship: the idea is really worn in the air, elements of hard rock appeared in the music of the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Yardberds).

Compositions in the style of “hard rock” cause a subjective feeling of heaviness, achieved by highlighting the rhythm section in the foreground, which requires the musicians to masterfully master their instruments.

In hard rock, in addition to the “bulge” of the rhythm section, all the instruments included in it are directly connected with the melodic leader – the guitarist, therefore there cannot be a separate improvisation of one instrument, which means that all the instruments of the group participate in the improvisation, creating integrity and the solidity of the work.

As an independent direction, “hard rock” stood out at the end of the 60s, and due to the fact that the outstanding guitarist Jimmy Hendricks conveyed it to the listener, hard rock has since assumed the performance of virtuoso instrumentalists, which only went to the benefit of both music and its fans. By the beginning of the 70s, gigantic bands appeared, shining not only with the weight of their “hard rock”, but also with exceptional composing talent and performing skills: “Ice Zeppelin”, “Deep Perple”, “Black Sabbet”, “Nazareth”, “ Grand Funk Rail Road “and many, many others, almost 30 years ago defined the laws and framework for the good tone of hard rock today.

In conclusion, we can say that the synthesis of hard rock with other areas of rock music, as a rule, gives interesting results – this is how “heavy art rock”, “hard fusion”, “heavy psychedelia”, as well as styles such as glitter rock, heavy rhythm and blues, hard rock.
