Haley Williams ABOUT MYSELF AND PARAMORE MAGAZINE ROLLING STONE

Hayley Williams on “Ain’t It Fun” (“Isn’t that fun?”) And Paramore’s new album. Williams most significant hit on her team and why she was tired of talking about her hair.

More than a year has passed since Paramore released their famous fourth album of the same name in 2013, their own ambitious effort, similar to a big reload (their first album as a trio). It was a risk, the album did not have famous rock bands from major labels releasing four discs per album. Their album included 17 tracks, over an hour of recordings (including interlude, strings and choir). While Paramore’s fame slowly erupted, the band’s first album as a trio released 2 platinum singles: “Still Into You” and “Ain’t It Fun”, which subsequently had cross-success, entrenched in Billboard’s weekly rock charts, Adult Top 40 (one of the Billboard charts, consisting of the 40 most popular pop songs) and the all-encompassing Hot 100. Six months later it was released as a single, “Fun” is not typical for Paramore’s standards, it could have been a very good song for the summer. And her success resurrected a group that was on the verge of failure less than four years ago.

In fact, over the decade of his career, Paramore exist on two sides: success and failure. In the midst of their joint tour with Fall Out Boy (also known as Monumentour), Hayley Williams told Rolling Stone about ignoring the odds, about the band’s big hit, and why she hates questions about her hair.

In the past decade, this team has already experienced success, but this is nothing compared to what happened this year. Is this the best thing with Paramore?

Undoubtedly. With each level. We are constantly learning, we learn what it means to be in a group, both on a professional level and in a friendly one. This is an ongoing process. We made a record that we are very proud of and its success went beyond what we expected when we created it. Of course, this is such an incredible satisfaction, but on a personal level, I feel that our friendship is constantly deepening and becoming really important and necessary.

“Ain’t It Fun” has become a hymn. When you first recorded it, could you imagine that it would become so massive?

We worked so hard on this album, and nothing could help us, because we were divorced from what was happening with the music at that time. It’s about how we felt at that time, what inspired us, what encouraged us to be in the group again, and it is so strange that these songs made us so famous. Some of them are the most popular of what we wrote … “Ain’t It Fun” as a torrent, she just came out and now everyone sings her, she’s on the radio, it’s really cool. I don’t know if it’s possible to do this twice in my career. This is the first time we have experienced this and I am very grateful.

So do we have a chance to enjoy something similar again?

We all have, but there is no complete certainty. This year was surprisingly calm, given that the song turned out to be wild. We did one tour at the beginning of the year, went on a cruise and now we are in Monumentour. That is all we had to do. We spent a lot of time at home, and it was great. Real life is very different from the one we spend on the bus. Now I like to sit on the back porch, being with my family. I can tell you how much older I have been since we started.

Paramore has never done anything big, in many ways, but your success seems very organic. Did you fight to do your own thing?

We know when things go wrong. We are all very united on the road to success and we know how to be sincere with each other if we do not feel loyal to the cause. Doing things like the trendy video our team ridiculed gives us the opportunity to enjoy every moment, but it will lead us to create a great project. Our behavior is what matters. It’s like returning to 2005, when we again started writing (for fans) on MySpace, if it seems to us real, then this is the standard by which we should evaluate our every move.

Have you personally rejected proposals that seemed inappropriate to you?

At the very beginning, I turned down a ton of offers; as soon as I turned 18, I began to receive offers from magazines like FHM to star naked. Since then, there have been countless absurd things, and probably some cool features that we didn’t even feel suitable at the time. We are a class that allows us to express ourselves, to bloom like people, at the same time, we give our team the opportunity to expand our borders. I think something like that was in us to know what seems appropriate, the feeling that Paramore is real, because you are part of a group, you grow in it. I don’t worry much about lost and done things during these years, and the guys also don’t really worry about it. And it’s like the Teen Choice Awards, where we said, “Oh, we don’t want to have a teen show,” actually being teenagers themselves at the time. [Laughs]
