Overview of Heavy Music Styles (part 2)

Progressive Metal is the most intelligent metal genre, a direct descendant of Art Rock. “Progressors” went even further in terms of “inaudibility”, which entailed the commercial failure of the style. Still, not everyone can adequately perceive 20-30-minute songs with a complex rhythmic pattern, constant tempo changes, deep conceptual verses, crazy vocal passages and long guitar and keyboard solos! The first group that tried to combine all this with heavy riffs was the Rush Canadians, but their music is more suitable for the definition of “heavy art rock” than Progressive Metal. The real “progressive” appeared in the early 80s through the efforts of such bands as Mercyful Fate, Fates Warning and Watchtower (this group along with Mekong Delta played techno-thrash, even more technical and sophisticated music). Overview of Heavy Music Styles (part 1)

Grindcore (Grindcore) – the hardest musical (?!) Direction of all ever created by mankind. The first grind album was released by perverts from Napalm Death (England), mixing in their music the energy of the most brutal representatives of hardcore (Cryptic Slaughter, for example) with the severity and aggression of Death metal and maximizing this mixture. They got a bunch of ultra-heavy, ultra-evil and ultra-short (from a few seconds to 2-3 minutes!) Compositions. Such a miracle simply could not go unnoticed in the ranks of misanthropic citizens, and after the “napalms” from the British cellars a huge number of new teams emerged playing grind, including Carcass, who became famous as the most bloodthirsty group on planet Earth. Jazz musician John Zorn even managed to play Grindcore on the saxophone. Continue reading

At the top of popularity were The Supremes, The Temptations, Marvin Ray, The Miracles, Mary Wells and “Kid” Stevie Wonder. Subsequently, Diana Ross from The Supremes and Stevie Wonder became a legend in the music industry.

Two weeks after the release of the United States’ debut single, The Supremes, Buttered Popcorn, four young men – John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Pete Best, who called their group The Beatles – began regular performances in the Liverpool club Cavern. Continue reading

Deepening in the roots

Ugly, vicious, destructive “- such epithets awarded white America a new musical style – rock and roll. But subsequent decades have shown that this trend, rooted deep in history, is not a passing fashion, but the musical culture of several generations.

The rock and roll style, which absorbed elements of both European and African culture, could appear only in America. Immigrants from different countries of Europe, who poured into the New World in the XVII-XVIII centuries, brought with them not only their music, but also their instruments. Slaves imported from Africa retained their musical traditions, but in view of the ban on playing national instruments, they had to be content with singing and dancing. Continue reading
