Megadeth is an American thrash metal band from the city of Los Angeles, California, formed in 1983. The band was founded by guitarist and vocalist Dave Mustaine and bass player David Ellefson after Mustain was fired from Metallica. Since then, Megadeth has released 15 studio albums. The group is one of the most commercially successful thrash metal bands, selling over 50 million albums worldwide, including a Grammy-nominated multi-platinum album, Countdown to Extinction. In the United States alone, Megadeth received seven platinum, five gold albums and nine Grammy nominations as the best heavy metal artist. The group broke up in 2002 after Mustaine severely damaged the radial nerve, but after physiotherapy, in 2004 Mustaine restored the group that released The System Has Failed album that same year, which started at number 18 on the hit parade of popular albums. The term “grunge rock” has never been properly defined. Some consider it a subgenre of alternative rock music that emerged in the late 1980s around Seattle. Only a few immigrants from this state have identified themselves with this subgenre, but many of these groups remain incredibly popular to this day.
